Knefler’s Fifth

Chabad of Indiana is elated to announce: our limited-supply bottles of whiskey, dubbed Knefler’s Fifth, are now available for purchase.

With this bottle, we honor the memory of Colonel Frederick Knefler. A proud Hoosier, Knefler was the highest-ranking Jewish officer in the Union Army during the Civil War. His post-war accomplishments include overseeing the planning and erecting of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in the heart of Indianapolis.

Frederick was a vocal part of the opposition to the Alcohol Prohibition, so to him we raise our glasses. Lchaim!

Tens of members of the Indiana Mensch Club put their heads together to select the barrel for this bottling and we hope you love the taste as much as we do.

Our friends at Circle City Distillers say this about the whiskey: Barrel 25-0145 is 6 years old, 90 proof and has a grain recipe of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley. This straight bourbon whiskey is a delightful balance of traditional bourbon notes like caramel, vanilla, and light cinnamon, balanced almost perfectly by strong hints of red fruit. A mildly spicy cherry note lingers on the finish and begs you to take another sip.

Bottles begin at $118 for one, $224 for two, $318 for three and $400 for four. Proceeds from this sale go to Chabad of Indiana.
